Everett Day Hawkins was born in Orange, New Jersey on May 10, 1906. He entered Oberlin College in 1924 and spent the years 1927-29 in Taigu, China as a Shansi Representative of the College. He received the A.B. from Oberlin in 1928, and the A.M. and Ph. D. degrees from Princeton University in 1933 and 1934. In 1935, he joined the faculty of Mt. Holyoke College, where he taught until 1963 when he was appointed to the faculty of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Hawkins' served the U.S. govern...
